It’s easy to forget about waste reduction during the Christmas season, a time of year filled with festive moods, gifting and happiness shared with family and friends.

This time of celebration however, is not festive for our planet, on average we generate much more waste during the holiday season than any other time of the year. The volume of waste increases by a whooping 25 percent during the Christmas season.

Made with Respect, believes that it is more important than ever to reconsider our buying habits and consciously choose more sustainable ways to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.

Currently, humans exploit more than 70% of the Earth, affecting the climate and leaving little room for nature to thrive.  With an ever-growing demand for resources by a growing population, we're putting tremendous pressure on our only planet’s biodiversity.

We can become part of the solution, instead of being the problem.

Living more sustainably is about making small changes, becoming more aware of the choices you make and being open to improving the way you consume.  With each of us implementing daily changes in our routine we can make a huge difference to the health of our planet as well as our own health and wellbeing.

It all starts with one small step...

On a daily basis, there are numerous ways we can all reduce the environmental impact of our waste. These simple rules can go a long way during holiday festivities:

  1. Buy less and buy better

  2. Spend money on experiences with family and friends rather than on `stuff’

  3. Make your presence your present this Christmas

  4. Support ethical and sustainable brands

These measures will ensure the holiday season is both enjoyable and less wasteful.
