11.2 billion pounds of plastic make their way into our oceans each year.
2.5 million plastic bottles are disposed every hour in America alone.
200+ years is the time it takes to decompose non-PET synthetic fibers.
Wolven use Recycled PET fabrics.
OEKO-Tex Certified Recycled P.E.T. is an innovative, versatile fabric created by breaking down plastics into fine yarns that can be woven into textiles and apparel. Breathable, incredibly soft, and durable.
Why It's important
Because an estimated 14 billion pounds of garbage is dumped into the ocean annually, 80 percent of which is a form of plastic that is killing off marine life and polluting a once healthy, thriving ecosystem. As landfills continue to reach capacity, more are created, taking over valuable forests and wetlands. Since plastics are indestructible, it’s vital that we find ways to reuse them—so Wolven are giving that plastic bottle a second life.
Carbon Neutral Modal Fabric is a cellulose fiber derived from beechwood pulp that’s twice as soft as cotton (really, really soft). Wolven's modal fabrics are produced from wood-pulp fibers that are sustainably harvested, and their modal garments are sewn in downtown Los Angeles.
Why It’s Important
Beech trees propagate on their own, so no artificial irrigation or planting is required—making beechwood forests a completely natural and sustainable source of raw material. These carbon-neutral fibers also require less land per tonne and maintain a water consumption level that’s ten to twenty times less than cotton. Win-win.
A number of Wolven garments start their life as a tree, their fabrics are produced more responsibly to ensure a lower environmental impact.
Carbon off-set initiatives It's not enough just to manufacture sustainably, Wolven also invest in programs that replace the resources they've spent, which is where offsets come in. Wolven have partnered with The Web Neutral Project to invest in great carbon offsets around the world. Each month a new region of the world benefits from the contribution to help create our vision of a more sustainable, carbon neutral world.
