Lingerie inspired by the elegance of nature and made from the finest organic cotton: responsibly sourced, earth conscious, free from toxic chemicals, long-lasting quality.
AmaElla founders, Julie Kervadec and Lara San Gil, are not only friends, they are best friends. Setting up a business together felt like the most natural thing to do, they didn’t want to set up just any business, they wanted to start a business that created positive social and environmental impact in the world.
From their combined knowledge of the fashion industry, they were shocked at the way companies exploited factory workers, suppliers and consumers. Julie & Lara decided to create an ethical fashion brand where people and our planet are at the heart of what they do.
AmaElla is a social enterprise whose mission is to encourage ethical behaviour in fashion through sustainable and ethical sourcing.
IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS
AmaElla want women to feel bold, beautiful and confident in their skin- their exquisitely designed organic cotton lingerie and nightwear is created with that in mind.
By selecting the finest organic cotton, premium trims, and pretty prints, AmaElla ensure your lingerie drawer is anything but ordinary.
Julie & Lara sleep well at night knowing their items have been made by women who are paid a living wage and whose working conditions are closely monitored to ensure they are treated fairly and respectfully.
For this reason, they only work with ethical fashion manufacturers, one in the UK and the other in Portugal. Their UK partner is a non-profit social enterprise who trains young women and develops their skills within the fashion industry. Their Portuguese manufacturer is GOTS* certified and only employs women who currently live in the area. By doing this, they ensure the rich textile heritage of the community is preserved.
AmaElla have chosen GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) because it is recognized as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from certified organically produced raw materials. It includes strict environmental criteria and also social criteria for operations along the entire textile supply chain.
All processors, manufacturers and traders are inspected once a year. This certification is performed by independent specially accredited bodies and is the basis of the GOTS monitoring system in order to provide a credible assurance for the integrity of GOTS certified textiles.
FREE FROM TOXIC CHEMICALS
It is demonstrated that pesticides and other man-made toxins have a direct impact on women’s hormonal health and the likelihood of developing breast cancer. It is recommended to avoid absorbing products that are treated with pesticides. So why wearing them close to our most sensitive body parts should be acceptable?!
AmaElla uses the most renowned harmful-substance testing, done by independent oragnizations: GOTS and OEKO-TEX. From the raw material to the completed fabric, everything has been tested with AmaElla products.
- All chemical inputs (e.g. dyes, auxiliaries and process chemicals) are evaluated and are biodegradable
- No formaldehyde: one of the most carcinogenic chemical, it can give terrible skin reactions. It’s been widely used in the textile industry in order to prevent fabric from wrinkling and shrinking. It gives the clothing easy-care properties such as water proof & stain resistance.
- No aromatic solvents
- No functional nano particles
- No genetically modified organisms (GMO)
- No chlorine bleaching
SUSTAINABLE & EARTH CONSCIOUS
Fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world, only second to oil. Even more worrying, non-organic/conventional cotton is the dirtiest crop out there. However, it is one of the most commonly used natural fibers and it's in nearly 40% of our clothing. Additionally, it uses 25% of all fertilisers around the world.
AmaElla have made a commitment to only use 100% organic cotton to make their products. This means all their garments are free from toxic chemicals. Organic cotton is better for the environment. Organic farming uses traditional and new scientific knowledge to grow crops in a way that develops healthy, fertile soil, conserves biodiversity and protects natural resources - minimising the use of non-renewable and off-farm inputs. Additionally, 80% of land under organic cotton is rain-fed meaning that water is more likely to be derived from rainfall rather than surface or ground water irrigation.
For printed garments, AmaElla only use GOTS certified printing. This means all of their prints are made with approved, water-based inks. This reduces the amount of toxic chemicals and the risks of skin irritation and allergies.
LONG LASTING QUALITY
AmaElla look for the best long lasting quality materials and follow a very diligent fitting process to deliver the best product possible. They aim for an all-round final product - something beautiful, of great quality, minimum environmental impact and maximum social impact.
The AmaElla promise:

- The properties of cotton allow your skin to breathe and stay fresh
- Due to its perspiration and the ability to control moisture, organic cotton is the best material for lingerie; recommended by dermatologists
- Garments are carefully designed with the maximum attention to detail
- The fabric is referred to as SmoothSkin; this fabric is due to be long-lasting and remain soft for a very long time
- GOTS certification ensures that technical quality parameters are met: rubbing, perspiration, light and washing fastness and shrinkage values
