Vitos 1925 - Paris, France
VITOS 1925 create high-end designs focusing on high quality natural knits, timelessness, attention to details & commitment; running counter to fast fashion. It is also the revival of a wonderful legacy, an iconic brand rich in heritage and mastery originally founded in 1925. VITOS was once France’s leading knitwear brand between 1950 and 1980, supporting women’s emancipation.
After sleeping for almost three decades, the most famous French knitwear brand during the post-war boom rises from the ashes thanks to the 5th generation. The aim? To rekindle an iconic brand, respecting the original ethos and values. Finding inspiration from the brand’s archives from the 60’s and reviving knitting points or in house prints from the 80’s.
The VITOS history is a family story that has seen unique expertise passed down through the generations, supporting women for nearly a century. Vitos was founded in Troyes in 1925 by Léon Vitoux who first specialising in stockings and pantyhose, Vitos went on to dress woman from head to toe from the 50s. Léon was a manufacturer, but also the inventor of a remeshing machine, still used today by some textile suppliers.
Julien Provot-Ragueneau and Valérie Toyomura-Provot, heirs of the fifth generation, took over the illustrious brand, relaunching in 2017 with the aim to revive the niche of high-end women's fashion, with a focus on natural knit.
The knit, a natural mesh, carefully selected with modern cuts and intense colors. All the stitches are developed internally with the expertise of Valerie Toyomura-Provot, also relying on the brand's archives and carefully preserved styles. VITOS favors the 'remaillées' (crocheted) finish with panels assembled by hand mesh by mesh.
Each design is made from pure yarns: cashmere, merino wool or cotton. With a wide variety of women's sweaters and cardigans, some of which are recycled cashmere, combined with chain and weft socks, alternating fluidity with modern patterned jacquards.
The collection designed in Paris is developed & manufactured in workshops between France and Italy by selecting exclusively natural yarns and fabrics. Julien & Valérie began by forming a network of suppliers in France and Italy, with a 'slow fashion' perspective, highlighting the know-how.
The brand collaborates with the best spinners and knitters, most of the century-old houses. A mastery and know-how that ensure impeccable stitching and very refined models.
The first collection under the artistic direction of Valerie Toyomura-Provot, revisits traditions with freedom and efficiency, inspired by the excellence of the past whilst offering the very best of the present techniques.
