Hania by Anya Cole - New York, USA
HANIA by Anya Cole create luxury hand knit sweaters fusing contemporary with centuries old tradition. With every piece hand knit to order, the HANIA by Anya Cole collection is ethically and sustainably produced, made to last a lifetime.
When Anya Cole was nine years old in Poland her mother taught her 'if you need it, make it' and so at a young age Anya learned the craft of knitting. She further developed her skills when, as a professional ballet dancer, she would knit for herself the layers of sweaters, scarves, hats, gloves and leg warmers that keep a dancer warm in drafty rehearsal studios. Then as a single mother in West Germany, Anya knit to financially support herself and her young daughter. Years later having moved to New York City, Anya knit to create for herself a wardrobe that fit her understated, highly personal vision. In 2014, HANIA by Anya Cole was born.
Knit entirely by hand and to order in New York City from yarn specially twisted by the most renowned and exclusive cashmere mills in Italy and Scotland, HANIA by Anya Cole creates luxurious, timeless designs that epitomize an effortless elegance.
As part of the company’s mission to support local artisans, HANIA by Anya Cole employs over one hundred knitters throughout New York City’s five boroughs, enabling them to utilize and enhance the skills they, too, learned from their mothers and grandmothers. From this natural talent, they share contemporary techniques, unique stitches and design to enhance and develop their abilities so they become skilled artisans working at the highest levels of craftsmanship. The 'signature' of each knitter is sewn inside the knitwear they produce, reflecting the pride taken in the unique nature of every HANIA by Anya Cole garment.

Each HANIA by Anya Cole Hand Knit sweater and accessory is designed in their studio on 56th Street in New York City by Anya Cole. Making pieces in New York City guarantees Anya can be a part of each step of the production process.
This process begins when the assigned knitter comes to the studio to pick up yarn and go over the design with Anya and their head of production. Knitters, who are all exceptionally skilled, work from home, which allows them to knit on their own schedule. On average a sweater usually takes between 5 and 7 days to knit, from yarns that have been twisted to specifications for the purpose of being hand knit on two needles. The knitter then brings back the completed pieces to the studio where Anya rigorously checks each piece to ensure that proportions are correct and every stitch is as close to perfect as is possible with a hand made piece.
After each style is washed and dried in house they cut and finish, sew in tags, and prepare to ship the knits to customers, all from their NYC studio.
