Flock by Nature - Wiltshire, UK
Flock by Nature knitwear is proudly made from the finest 100% natural British & Italian yarns. A responsible brand, they minimizes their environmental footprint while maximizing social good.
Flock by Nature was born when co-owner Annie Colley was on maternity leave from her corporate job. During this time, when awareness of her wellbeing was high, she came to truly value quality clothing made of natural fibres. Merino wool, in particular, became a favourite due to its superior ability to regulate body temperature & its super-soft feel.
Annie loves luxury whilst caring about our natural and social environment and doesn't believe that one should be at the expense of the other.
THE FLOCK PHILOSOPHY
Flock by Nature is a responsible brand that minimizes their environmental footprint while maximizing social good. The Fashion industry is a huge contributor to global pollution and environmental destruction and at Flock By Nature, it is key for them not to add to this wastage.
In line with their beliefs, knitwear is manufactured thoughtfully. With a lot of consideration given to how Flocks clothes are made, they have committed to 4 guiding principles of responsibility and sustainability.
1. USE OF NATURAL MATERIALS
A love for natural fibres coupled with the belief that they contribute to our general wellbeing & comfort. Natural fibres also lend a superior quality and longevity to clothing that isn’t found in synthetic alternatives.
Wool is renewable with healthy sheep growing a new fleece every year. It is biodegradable if it is returned to soil it is relatively quick to decompose and in doing so returns nutrients back to the earth. It is durable, it's natural fibres have an intrinsic strength that ages well. And it is recyclable, up-cyclable, re-fashioned - it can be used over and over again.
Flock guarantee all their merino is also mulesing-free. Mulesing is a controversial practice carried out on sheep to prevent a condition called flystrike. Skin is stripped from the sheeps’ buttocks to stop flies laying eggs in the folds of skin. It is a painful process and is not always a guarantee of prevention. Only the highest quality Italian & British natural fibres are sourced for the Flock collection.
Flock are also committed to using packaging that is either recycled or recyclable.
2. KNOW WHO MADE YOUR CLOTHES
All Flocks clothes are made in either the UK or Italy. Where possible they strive for production in the UK. When this is not possible, they stay within the E.U. where labour rights are strong and enforced. They regularly visit their factory in Italy with whom they have been working with for several years and have a great rapport with their designers, knitters, technical and clerical teams.
3. QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
The Flock range is consciously small, allowing them to focus on the detail and quality of the individual items. They also partner with factories that are happy to work in small batches reducing the potential for waste materials throughout the supply chain.
By selecting high quality yarns, Flock are able to produce durable clothes that look beautiful, will wash well and will retain their shape & hand-feel. All sweaters and cardigans are backed by the Flock Promise of free repairs to ensure their garments remains a wardrobe staple.
4. GIVING BACK
Flock aspires to have a long lasting, positive impact with 10% of the profit on each sale going to the Flock Fund which donates to charities and causes they care about.
