Aneau - Sydney, Australia
ANEAU is a contemporary Australian lifestyle brand. ANEAU's range of hand-made quilts for the home are designed in Sydney and made in partnership with the Purkal women's foundation in a rural village in the foothills of the Himalayas - teaching skills, confidence, self-worth & happiness.
Designer Anna Westcott launched ANEAU in September 2016. The Sydney designer’s grandparents were both tailors, and a respect for tradition, art and more specifically, of quilting, was instilled early on in life. She was taught by these women that the stories behind an object are often just as interesting as the objects themselves.
ANEAU is intrigued by age-old traditions, to preserve these traditions all quilts are made using hand-sewn techniques. The quilts are designed in Sydney and made in partnership with the Purkal women's foundation in a rural village in the foothills of the Himalayas, one bedroom sized quilt takes 3 days to make. This attention to detail and craftsmanship creates a unique item, made to be treasured.
The Purkal womens foundation teach women in the community skills in quilting, providing them with an income and a place to be appreciated - through their work they gain respect within their family, increased confidence, self-worth and happiness.
Conscious, considered and meaningful exchange underpins every ANEAU design and collaboration.
An aneau is a small circular band of metal. ANEAU the label is an infinite ring; of women, of connections and of thoughtfully designed items with stories to tell.
